Alright, I've found 5 mins to blog before diving into my text books.
So this is the end of week 1 and things are starting to go on full gear. Lectures after lectures, practicals after practicals. Yes, I'm so very busy. We are now studying the cardiovascular system and I love it. Now, all lectures are in the new lecture theater in the new building and the 1st years uses the old one in the hospital. My usual sitting, 5 rows up on the left, first sit.
So, I've started studying so that I would sound that I actually know my stuff. Just finish writting out my week 1 's notes and going to do my week 1 reading list before tomorrow starts. I think I like it this way, being busy and all, because I've got something to do and have tomorrow planned. Feels good to always have something to do.
Weather is starting to cool down and the rain seems to be starting to come in. We are now in the low 20 degrees range. It's all good except when I have to get out of my nice, warm, cozy bed in the morning. Food in the hostel is still fine so far. I will start to be on diet next week by eating less at dinners and not going to supper. Need to loose weight and cold weather just gives you a boost as your body needs to increase metabolism to maintain the body temperature. However, it would also try to store fats as insulation. Will start running next weekend to make sure that metabolism rate goes up and fats goes down.
I think that's the sign to head back to my books.

First Day Back
Today's the first day back to school. The medical school have now moved to the new medscience 1 building right in the city, so very close to the RHH. This is meant to be easier on the clinicians who will be teaching us just in case they need to suddenly go save lives.
The new medscience building is still half finished. No surprise. They told us in advance. However, only today did we realise that we have no place at all to hang out. Other then the so angulated sofa-like thing in the foyer. Classroom have glass as walls ie. everyone can see our CBL discussion and we can't goof around. The lecture theater has windows that we can look out to the streets and they can look at us too. 5 minutes into the introdution, I started to look out, count 10 cars that rolled by and picked the one that I like best. Don't think that I'm the only one doing that though, because eventually, the made the shades come down. We can still look out but not as tempted anymore. Other then that, everything is new and I like new things.
In the rare occurance like today, my class went from 9am to 1 pm. First day back benifits. So came back early and spent the rest of the day "exploring" MyLO. It's a total different layout from last year. Timetable. Totally changed. We are having more tutorials. No complains about that. There would be only one CBL per week. No complaints about that either. The catch. We are to present the case the same day as we would be having CBL. Only having clinical skill once every fortnight mean that we have less practice. That's not too good. Guess we all just need to get use to it.
Have another look at my timetable and just realise that it's pretty alright if you compare to next week with full on 9am - 5pm everyday. So, I'm going to enjoy my first week back and find some secret space just for the me and a few people to hang out and do our stuff.
That's how my first day went.

Chinese New Year
Happy Chinese New Year to everyone !!!!
Well, this would be my 4th Chinese New Year away from home. Have to have my family's reunion dinner a day earlier. It was a feast. Chinese New Year is really quite in Australia. It's not so bad in the bigger cities like Perth, Mel or Sydney. In Tas, however, it's none existance. We need a bigger Chinese population to make it here. Can't stand it, too quite. Still it's Chinese New Year. Hopefully, I get to spent mine next year back home.
Came to uni today to make my uni ID. We've got to make one every year. This year, I'm orange in the picture, and I look like I've shrunk. Last year was green. Let's see if I get to be blue, purple and yellow for my next few cards, then I would have the whole collection.
Bought my things that I would be needing for the new semester. Except for scalper blades though, will get them when school starts since the new building is in the city near the medical store.
Hostel's internet is up and running though we would be changing to hard wire in a bit. Just collected my last addition to my room, co-op bookshop calender poster. Good thing to paste on my wall. Look good and its useful. Guess we are not having monday pasta night anymore. Thankfully. Hate thoes pasta, especially the red ones. Sun's out, yet to do lundry.
Happy Chinese New Year!! (It last for 15 days)

Year 2
I am currently now back in Hobart, Tasmania and am about to start my 2nd year in medicine. School is starting next week so I am still getting everything ready. I'm using the school computer to blog now.
It's going to be another busy year with 2nd year and all but I guess I like it that way. I have started to have my hostel meals and it's the same as before. My room is pretty much the same, just that more stuff is being put up, more clothes are being added and I need to look for more space for my books.
I just want to pre-advice that this blog is likely going to skew towards the life of a 2nd year medical student and hostel living. Hopefully it's still remains interesting as I tend to blog less with school work coming in.

The return to reality
Today's the day. Today is officially the last day of my summer break. Today, I will be leaving the comfort of my home. Today, I will be on the plane off to Hobart.
This morning, I woke up at 5am. I beat the Sun to waking up. Early in the morning with my eyes still sleepy, we went to the market to do marketing and have breakfast. At least we beat the crowd to marketing and got everything that we would need.
By the time I got back, I went right back to bed and fell asleep. By the time I woke up looking for food, it's lunch time. By the time then, I felt that I should start to pack up my gear and get ready. So that's what I did.
Now, I'm hanging out in m favourite armchair, sitting around and watching television. Now, I have my laptop on my lap, blogging of course. Now, I'm still waiting for the right time to start making dinner.
Later, I would be in the kitchen hanging around, trying to help out for tonight's dinner. Later, I would then go pick grandma over for dinner. Later, I would be having reunion dinner with my family, a day in advance. Later then, I would be on my way to the airport after lighting some firecracker for Chinese New Year. Later, I would be boarding the plane. Later, I would be on the plane and sitting in my window seat. Later, I would realise that this is it, this is the end, this is the moment of returning to my life, to living, to working for and protecting the things I know I truely desire.
Tomorrow, I will find myself being rudely awoken by the stewardess telling me to put my seat upright and open the window shade to prepare for landing. Tomorrow, I will find myself having lunch without breakfast due to the time difference. Tomorrow, I will find myself hang out in Melbourne airport for 5 hours waiting for the next flight to Hobart. Tomorrow, I will find myself in the hostel, having my first hostel meal for the year. Tomorrow, I will find myself unpacking everything before falling soundly asleep, awaiting for another tomorrow.
Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, Today is a gift. That's why it's called Present.
Till next summer break.

Tidy it up
This weekend was my last weekend home for my summer break. The norm would probably going out with a BANG. Right? No, mine didn't.
Since forever, I spent at least every other weekend being asked by my parents to tidy up my room. Even now, they still do that. So guess what I did this weekend? Tidy up my room. Alright, fair enough that my room was messy and they had been nagging for at least a few days already. Being me, my reply was 'wait' or 'tommorrow'. So I guess today they really wanted it done, with chinese new year and all. So dad was like " KATHLEEN!!! Go tidy up your room before you do anything else. I will be checking your room in an hour." I just stood there frozen, can't believe that my room actually still gets check on. "Clock's ticking child." I scooted after hearing that cause I know that with my room, Ha, no way it can be finished in an hour.
Anyway, I just packed and packed and put stuff away or throw them out. Lucky I didn't just push my stuff under the bed. It felt like I barely started and then there was a knock on the door and the door was opening. Room check. Oh dear, not yet finish. So I gathered everything that I haven't finished packing, pull out my suitcase from under the bed, open the suitcase, drop the unpack things into the suitcase, shut the suitcase then push it back under the bed. No one the wiser.
So in come dad, checking my room, making sure it's tidy enough. Even under my bed was checked to see if I just shoved everything under. Just as I thought that I escaped trouble, my suitcase got pulled out and opened.
Unbelievable. How did he know? No way. It's impossible. Time froze. Dad looked at me like he was trying to read my mind. I nearly cry. Nearly.
In the end, my family went out for lunch without me. Dad was like "You will be staying here and be tidying up your room. The right way. Not hidding stuff around. I will check when we get back." So they left. I return to the remaining bits of tidying up my room, and even mopping the floor.
I suppose that they when out for quite some time cause I got woken up when dad came knocking on my door again. He came in to check that my room was neat and tidy enough. After which I stroll to the kitchen and found out that nothing was packed for me, just as I feared. It was probably quite obvious from my expression. Dad was like " Maybe you shouldn't have tried to lie to me." Opps, I'm still not out of hot water. What do you want me to say? After a while, I went "Sorry dad, I freaked out. Didn't really mean it that way." Then there was silence, silence and then he went to the biscuit tin and took out a packet of butter cracker and gave it to me. "Lunch." He said. I took it and went off munching it. It's not that bad but a lunch out with everyone would still be better though.
That was the end of it. Can you believe it? I'm so messy that I still get my room checked, at my age. Ohh, well. At least Dad cares enough to check on me.

Yet another day going by
Today is Wednesday. There isn't much going on as per usual since it is still summer break. I love long summer breaks. The usual short a week or a month break, way too short to do anything.
So anyways, just woke up at 12pm since my brother doesn't want to go to the office, with a little wake interval that my dad insist on me waking up for breakfast. He won't havethe branch nonsense that he reckon I started to make a habit of over the past 2 years.
I then played with my 2 new star tortoise and sun them a little while they have their food. So here I am now posting this up after my lunch. Will be starting to do a little packing up later and make dinner then try to look for some television show to watch. Malaysian television can be quite boring during the day especially if you don't understand malay.
Still enjoying my luxury of sitting around and doing nothing while I can.
